The House up at Lake Kourna is just a ten minute drive from Georgioupolis and there is also a train that runs up into the area from Georgioupolis sea front. The stunning view in the courtyard looks out onto the lake, with the sea to the East and the mountains to the West. It is truly breathtaking. On the lake you can rent boats, pedalos or swim from the beaches when it's not too full. There are a few tavernas along the main road up into the mountains but facilities are sparser. There is a supermarket, printers, car rental and many other amenities in nearby Kavallos or Rethymnou.

House is at Kavalos (just along from Mouri). Its 53 steps down below the well signposted Kavalos Taverna (run by Yanni & Katerina & daughter Lefteria). Lovely local greek food!
ReplyDeleteApart from main road to Georgioupolis - there's also a winding back way to the holiday resort of Kavros (not Kavallos!) on the main road (hiding the lovely beaches & coast by hotels!) - with petrol station & supermarket - and with builders merchant to rear of.
The trellis and outdoor table creates a lovely shaded outdoor room - just a question of who grabs the corner seat! Views of both Lake Kournas AND the northern coast. Bath replaced with shower 2013. Steps now tiled. New washing machine installed late 2015. Note - still not resolved leak in supply to outside shower - you have to reach down over the wall to turn it on when required. Clear sky at night for viewing the stars!!.
Water meter and on/off switch is at end of back passage (with 5 others! - its the one with pressure control). The Electric consumer unit is in the hallway with meter externally (to front corner of courtyard). The key box is fitted to wall in internal courtyard - key is for front door (facing lake).
